2023 Ford Ranger Diesel is Still an Option

Don’t be tricked by the discontinuation of an oil burner for the F-150 truck. The 2023 Ford Ranger diesel is a way better addition. An oil burner in the mid-size pickup segment would be there to improve both towing capacity and the gas mileage. Another reason that drives Ford bosses crazy – Chevrolet is dominating this market thanks to the Colorado with a Duramax plant.

Ever since the Ranger came back to the United States, we knew a turbo-four is not going to be the only available drivetrain. But, it is so for now. We can say it is because of global circumstances. The 2023 Ford Ranger Diesel is the addition that will definitely make the truck potentially the best model on the market. For now, Colorado has the advantage thanks to the additional options if offers, including a diesel engine.

2023 Ford Ranger Diesel Specs

For a long time, a 3.2-liter V6 was under the hood of the Ranger diesel. As you know, the circumstances in different markets are not the same. So, outside the US, such a big oil burner was quite popular. The company had no problems using it because of the lighter emission policies. Those things are changing globally.

A 3.2-liter mill is still available in some regions. However, a favorite to be the powertrain of the 2023 Ford Ranger Diesel in the US is a 2.0-liter turbodiesel. It can deliver 170 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0-liter V6 was previously available for the F-150. After removing it from the lineup, experts started talking about its comeback as the drivetrain for the Ranger. It wouldn’t be a surprise. FCA did it with the Jeep Gladiator, which comes with the same diesel engine the Ram 1500 is using. But, Ford is keener on a smaller displacements, boosted by turbochargers.

Raptor Truck Set for a Debut in the US

Besides the oil burner, another hot topic related to the Ranger truck is the Raptor edition. It is available outside the US, and with a diesel engine. The same 2.0-liter system is featuring a twin-turbo enhancement to increase power and torque outputs. The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor can do 210 hp and 370 lb-ft of twist. That is more than the Chevy Colorado Duramax can do. So, Ford is about to beat the GM in the off-road battle once again, since the Raptor will definitely be more attractive than the Colorado ZR2.

Anyway, although fans would love to see this truck in the US, their wish is far from the reality for now. The company is holding them in uncertainty, even not denying the speculations. Tabs are opened and the 2023 Ford Ranger Diesel is probably the best upgrade the truck can get. The mid-size pickup market is growing, so the company needs to react fast. Nevertheless, there are also other interesting ongoing projects, such as the electric truck F-150 Lighting, or the all-new compact pickup, Maverick. A diesel engine for the Ranger is not at the top of priority charts.
