2020 Ram 2500 Concept, Release Date, New Transmission

After full-size models, the heavy-duty trucks will steal the show in 2019. This is the most profitable segment in the automotive industry. All big three companies are making the most money from sales of HD trucks. So, there is no surprise why we will see next generations of Ford Super Duty, Chevy Silverado HD, and Ram HD trucks. The 2020 Ram 2500 is going to be the entry-level model. The redesign will change the interior structure. However, the exterior is not going to suffer too much. All engines from the current edition will be carried over, while we can see the new transmission for the HD trucks, including Ram 2500 Mega Cab.

The concept includes both petrol and diesel engines. Of course, the Cummins unit is one of the most capable in the class. For high-end versions, it can deliver up to 920 lb-ft of torque. However, that is an output we can get from the Ram 3500 model. Cosmetic changes include variations of body parts and the interior overhaul. The new 2020 Ram 2500 will be very similar to its smaller stablemate. What’s more, it will pick up infotainment and safety features from Ram 1500. Recently, few trim levels were spied, showing some changes. However, the full lineup will be presented during next year and everything should start in Detroit in January.

The major addition for the new truck is a gearbox. The 2020 Ram 2500 transmission case now offers eight gears. The ride will be smoother, the big truck should improve its fuel economy, and very probably towing capacity. We still don’t know exact numbers, but these will be unveiled at official debut. The new transmission box for Ram 2500 is going to be a product of ZF, as this company creates gearbox for some other models. The case weighs only 330 pounds and it can handle 1,000 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the fuel economy savings go up to about 10 percent.

2020 Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel Specs

Gasoline engines can provide a nice amount of power and towing capability. But if you want to squeeze everything from your 2020 Ram 2500, then you need a Cummins diesel unit. A 6.7-liter turbo engine is capable to deliver 920 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, this configuration of the Cummins unit is available only for Ram 3500 model. For Ram 2500, the twisting power goes up to 800 lb-ft. It is possible with automatic transmission, and we believe the diesel truck will keep a six-pace gearbox. The other solution is a base pickup with 660 pound-feet of torque. This configuration delivers 350 hp through a manual transmission, 20 ponies fewer than with automatic.
