Ford is Testing the New 2022 F-150 Raptor

After the debut of the new Ram 1500 TRX with the Hellcat engine, everyone knew the next move is on Ford. The US truckmaker reacted without hesitations and the new version of the F-150 Raptor is already out on the streets. The next-gen truck is going to debut soon and the new performance version will be part of the lineup. The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R will use a supercharged V8 engine with 760 horsepower. In your face, FCA!

This is becoming the new most powerful truck in the market. Hellcat didn’t dominate for a long time. But, Ram is doing a great job. The half-tone truck passed the Chevy Silverado in sales. However, Ford doesn’t want to be the next on the list to go down. That is why the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R is coming out so soon. By the way, the standard Raptor package is still there, nothing less impressive.

Three-Way Battle

Raptor was the only performance 4×4 truck in the market for some while. We cannot call Toyota Tundra TRD Pro a competitor with significantly weaker outputs. But, the Ram 1500 TRX increased the horsepower rating to 702, challenging Ford and its high-output V6 configuration. It is finally happening and Raptor is getting a V8 engine. Chevrolet and GM have no options but to join the race. There are several concepts that could get on the line to Ram TRX and the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor. Silverado is about to get either ZRX, ZR2, or Reaper package to catch up with high-performance trucks.

The base setup stays the same. Under the bonnet of the classic Raptor stays a 3.5-liter V6 engine. High-output configuration will return 450 hp and 510 lb-ft, the maximum engineers could squeeze from this unit. Of course, there are other upgrades that will make the 4×4 ride smoother. Shocks, suspensions, and brakes are the key. Ford will make the Raptor capable of towing in tough conditions by installing bedliner in the box and adding skidplates to protect the underbody.

It is still unknown what kind of an engine the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R is going to get. Fans saw the test mules. They report the truck sounds mighty. Definitely, Ford will respond with similar output, although experts think it is unnecessary. A 6.2-liter supercharged V8 could burst up to 760 horsepower. We can find such a configuration on the Ford GT500 Shelby, a muscle car based on the famous Mustang.

Another option is a new 7.3-liter Godzilla V8. The Blue Oval company is currently using it only in the Super Duty segment. The F-250 truck is getting 430 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, which is not enough to match the outputs of the standard Raptor. But, with superchargers, the engine is going to allow much higher outputs. Ford is using new technology, so a 7.3-liter unit is not so huge and we can definitely see it as the powerplant of the new 2022 Ford Raptor R.
