Isuzu is now a partner with Mazda, the Japanese company that shared ideas with Ford for more than 30 years. Their alliance is now history. However, there are two plants in the United States that produced Mazdas, but none of them were BT-50 truck. Now, two Japanese carmakers are ready to join forces and bring the new pickup for the largest truck market in the world.
The D-Max is already well-known to buyers in Europe and Asia. We can say this model is a real competitor and a threat. The sales are going well and Isuzu decided to expand the production to the SUV class with the MU-X model. Now, the next step is a debut in the US pickup market. The Japanese carmaker is unknown to buyers in this part of the world and the truck market is pretty demanding. It will take time before the D-Max gets into the hearts of truckers. But, the pickup was very popular in Asia and especially Australia, probably the second-largest market for these vehicles. It gives rights to Isuzu to dream about big things.
On the other hand, the market is now very big and it’s still growing. A few years ago, the big question mark was above this segment, with versatile SUVs threatening to kill the mid-size pickups. Even Ford made a break when decided to discontinue Ranger for the United States. Now, when the market is recovering, this model is back. It is not the only arrival. Jeep reintroduced the seven-slot truck after 30 years. Let’s not skip the class leaders, Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado. Nissan Frontier is also a rival. However, Isuzu faced most of these truckmakers already. The D-Max competed with Navara, HiLux, Holden Colorado.
Another big call is the place of production. As said, Mazda and Ford shared two factories in the US. There is another plant in Alabama. Nevertheless, Mazda again shared the project with Toyota. The production in the US soil would make the 2022 Isuzu D-Max more attractive because of the price. There are no estimations about the price and release date for this part of the world. Either way, Isuzu is preparing an all-new truck for the 2022 season.
