Under the hood of the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, boosted with electric motors. Total output of the system is 350 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. It looks very impressive, but the question is how it is going to work for the pickup truck. The configuration has just debuted on the Wrangler SUV. it is mated to a 4×4 drive and the SUV can cover the distance of 25 miles by using only a 17 kWh battery pack.
The 4xe drivetrain is available with standard equipment, but you can also upgrade it with the Sahara and Rubicon trims. You will find off-road features, such as hill control and Selec-Speed. Dana axles are going to make the truck capable of the ride in the toughest conditions, while the Rock-Trac System is optional with the Rubicon version.
A Step Closer to Electrification
The truck market is growing and electrification is a goal to most truckmakers. For now, only Tesla launched the EUT, while Hummer is announced for the next season. Ford is also keen on such a project. Plus, there are startup projects waiting for financial boost, such as Bollinger and Rivian.
FCA is definitely on this track. Ram 1500 features the mild-hybrid system that won’t improve the performance too much. But, it is good to see it available and the PHEV is the next step before the company starts producing the all-electric models.
2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Price and Release Date
We can again compare the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe with the Wrangler PHEV. The SUV is available for $48,000 and climbs up to $52,000 with several options. The 2022 Gladiator 4xe might be slightly cheaper. Truckers love to spend extra in various upgrades. Nevertheless, the PHEV system is not explored yet and it is questionable how it will work out on pickups.
More news about the Jeep Gladiator 4xe will be out by the end of this year. We don’t expect the truck out so soon. However, the concept might be there. It is even possible to combine the plug-in system with a larger unit, a 2.4-liter four-pot or a six-cylinder motor. In that case, the price will go up and exceed $50,000.
