More and more electric trucks are going to be available in 2023. Everything started with Tesla Cybertruck. General Motors responded with the 2023 GMC Hummer. After this one, Ford also announced the F-150 Lightning. The new segment is bringing new battles. There are a few other promising startup projects, such as Rivian R1T, or Bollinger B2.
Still, we are focused on official trucks, and the 2023 GMC Hummer is one of the most promising. Tesla launched its electric pickup, but the public was not too impressed. We can say more attention was caused when we’ve heard that the Hummer is coming back. It was not all, since General Motors added the nameplate to the GMC family. The final blow was to hear it will be an electric truck. Again, that is not all. Some of the features are also impressive, such as Crab Walk which allows truck to move diagonally.
Edition 1 Specs
The 2023 GMC Hummer will be out soon. Edition 1 will cost $80,000 and that is not a good start. Well, the base version will show off, while the following models are going to be more affordable. To be competitive with Ford and Tesla, GM will have to drop the price. Main rivals will be available for $40,000.
The Edition 1 of the 2023 Hummer comes with a tri-motor configuration and 1,000 horsepower. Of course, regular truckers will look for lighter setups. The top-of-the-class edition also features a Crab Walk system and Extract Mode (truck raises and gets extra ground clearance). Total mileage will be over 300 miles, and the company brags about the incredible torque the setup will be ready to make.
Other Editions
The company also announced that dual-motor configuration will be out as well. In this case, outputs drop to 625 horsepower and the mileage will depend on other features. The entry-level model will probably cost as much as F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck. But, don’t expect it to sprint to 60 mph in just 3 seconds. The range will probably drop to 200-250 miles. There are no details about the towing capacity. It is a major concern. Truckers don’t believe that electric pickups can tow as much as conventional engines.
2023 GMC Hummer Verdict
The announcement drew plenty of interest. After the company made it official, Ford had to respond. Other big carmakers, such as FCA and Toyota, will have to do the same. Also, the 2023 GMC Hummer will have a mechanical twin – Silverado EV. Well, we already know about GM twins, Silverado and Sierra, carrying GMC and Chevy badges.
Furthermore, fans are asking if the smaller Colorado truck is going to get an all-electric drivetrain. Also, the Hummer nameplate will be reused for the SUV model. This one will come a year after the pickup. The launches will happen in stages over the next two years. The first batch of limited edition trucks was sold out 10 minutes after the pre-order started. The serial production of the 2023 GMC Hummer will start closer to the end of this year.
