Rumors are loud and frequent, but the truckmaker is not confirming anything yet.
The new transmission would help RAM HD models, especially Series 3 trucks, to maximize the towing potential of Cummins diesel engine. Still, this unit is limited to the 2023 Ram 2500. The highlight of the lineup is the Power Wagon package, unavailable for any other configuration. This off-road pickup is a direct rival to the Ford F-250 Tremor. A petrol and diesel engines are there to meet the requirements of more buyers.
Specifications
A 6.4-liter V8 petrol unit is a well-known drivetrain for some of the SRT models in the FCA’s family. The largest powerplant is there for the heavy-duty trucks as well, delivering 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed transmission sends power to rear or all wheels. The towing capacity is 17,500 pounds. Still, the maximum potential can be reached with a diesel engine. Cummins is delivering a 6.7-liter turbo-eight mill, good for 370 hp and 850 lb-ft. For the Series 3 truck, the outputs raise to 400 ponies and 1,000 pound-feet of twist. Maximum towing capacity jumps to almost 20k pounds. AISIN gearbox is forwarding power from a diesel engine to wheels. Soon, the 2023 Ram 2500 Allison transmission could debut instead of an old case. FCA wants to improve its trucks, and this seems like a legit move.
2023 Ram 2500 Power Wagon, Other Configurations
The 2023 Ram 2500 Power Wagon is the most interesting model in the lineup. The Series 2 pickup is the only model with this package, specialized for the off-road drive. Besides the 4×4 drivetrain, you will also find a few unique body upgrades. For example, graphics and colors are exclusive for the Power Wagon. The Crew Cab is standard on this version, while the package also brings electronic differentials on both axles, off-road suspension, all-terrain tires, parking sensors, satellite radio…
The lineup of trim levels is pretty long, so most buyers can find a suitable configuration. The offer starts with the Tradesman package. We already used to see every Ram truck with this bundle. The Big Horn and Laramie are the mid-range offer with notable upgrades over the base version. Longhorn is bringing some premium features, such as navigation, leather seats with heating and ventilation, or 10-speaker audio. The best options are left for the 2023 Ram 2500 Limited. Large touchscreen display dominates at the center of the dashboard. Adaptive cruise control and extra cameras will make the driving easier.
Pricing
The MSRP of the 2023 Ram 2500 starts at $36,000. With so many options available, it is not worth of mentioning the price of every upgrade. We can mention Power Wagon at $55,000. A diesel is recommended upgrade for $9,500. Unfortunately, Dodge Ram 2500 is not available with a dual rear wheel setup.
