Every now and then aftermarket companies are trying to enhance existing vehicles – their look and performance. One of the best-known tuners are the Shelby American, specialized for Ford cars. We remember old Cobras and GT models. Some of the most impressive works come for the legendary F-150 truck. The Ford Shelby Raptor is the latest project.
The Raptor truck is already an iconic configuration with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. But, Shelby engineers managed to squeeze even more juice from the 3.5-liter unit. Of course, there are also other upgrades around the body and inside the cabin. We’ll walkthrough the Ford Shelby Raptor truck.
Specifications
The F-150 Raptor is one of the most powerful trucks in the market with 450 hp coming from a twin-turbo V6 engine. Ford recently launched the Raptor R model with a supercharged 6.2-l V8 and 750 hp, as a response to the Ram 1500 TRX, also known as the “Raptor-killer”. Still, those are high-end versions with impressive outputs.
Shelby American takes the classic version of Raptor again. Last time we saw their work on the 2020 YM. Now, the new edition is the 2023 Ford Shelby Raptor. A 3.5-liter V6 engine cracks 525 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque. Plus, designers had to install special parts to handle all this power and twist. High flow filter features the new performance intake system with oversized tube. Intercooler is made of aluminum and heat shield is one-piece. Plus, special exhaust system is there with the BDS suspension lift.
Ford Shelby Raptor Body and Interior Upgrades
Not only the engine is unique, but also many body parts. For example, the truck is now using a set of 18-inch Shelby Raptor alloy wheels and 37-inch mud tires. Designers added Baja hood accents and extraction hood vents, striping and grille inserts. Power steps make the truck look more aggressive. Dash plaque is there and engine has a serial number. Steel front bumper is more resistant and Shelby adds tow points. You will also notice special LED lamps, also on the rear bumper. Inside, there are leather surfaces, Baja Raptor floor mats, carbon-fiber accents, racing pedals, tinted windows and CSM serial number and engine plaque.
Price
The Shelby upgrade is nearly more expensive than the base Raptor truck, which costs around $78,000. After the special treatment, the price rises to $144,000 and goes up if you want some other modifications. That is way more than the 750-hp rated Raptor R model with a V8 engine under the hood. You can get this performance-tuned truck for $110,000 and keep the warranty. Yes, Shelby offers a 3-year 36,000-miles warranty, but only to their parts.
Ford Shelby Raptor vs Yenko Silverado
The F-150 pickup is the best-selling model in the segment. Ford rivals General Motors for ages, as well as their fans. Of course, you will also find Chevy Silverado with unique aftermarket upgrades. One of the best tunings is the Silverado Yenko with 700 and 800 horsepower outputs. The main difference is in engines. While Ford relies to a six-pot unit, Chevrolet goes out with big V8 plants.
