We all know that GM has a history of producing some of the most magnificent vehicles in the market worldwide. One of their most outstanding models is the Colorado, which stands out as one of the most appealing off-road SUVs in the market.
The 2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 is a hydrogen-powered, brainchild mule of GM in conjunction with the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). Though still a concept, this model is expected to hit the market, but most of its productions will be for the US Army. The model was unveiled on October 3rd, 2016, during the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) meeting. Here is what to expect from this magnificent machine.
2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 – What Will the Exterior Look Like:
Its general outlook and shape are almost similar to that of the Colorado, only that it’s bigger, better and more appealing. The ZH2 is a 7 foot wide and 6.5-foot tall monster machine sitting on a similar but stronger chassis of its predecessors. Its front fascia makes it look aggressively attractive like a charging buffalo. It has two ultra-thin headlights and a large front bumper with twin fog lights. Above the windshield, it will also have twin top lights for clearer visibility. Its rear side will also have ultra thin LED tail lights and a massive rear bumper. Below the bumper the ZH2 will have twin tow rings that should come in handy when towing services are needed. It will be riding on a whopping 37 inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tires.
2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 – Boastful Interior:
Most of the interior specifications of the ZH2 will be similar to those of the Colorado. It will, however, have a number of modifications to suit its purpose. With an all leather interior, the Chevy Colorado ZH2 2017 be fitted with sporty seats, updated gauges and new graphics on the dashboard. It has the capability of reaching a maximum speed of 140miles per hour with an 8-speed manual/auto transmission. It will be fitted with the latest technology including GPS, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a large display monitor that will also display the car’s output in KW. A number of security features have been incorporated in the machine. They include more airbags, connectivity in remote regions and an Exportable Power Take-Off unit (EPTO), which for power back-up in harsh terrain.
2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 – Expected Engine Details:
Most of the details pertaining its fuel cell are rather limited but, the ZH2 will be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. The fuel cells will convert hydrogen into electricity giving it a longer range. It will be capable of producing 25 to 50 kWh of power when charged. The refuel time should take no more than 5 minutes tops. The electricity produced from the cell feeds a motor with 236 lb-ft of torque that can propel the car to 60 mph in 15.4 seconds.
The fuel cell will have a range of 150 miles but an upgrade is being worked on to make it reach over 400 miles. It will also have a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery on board that can push the vehicle 20 miles further. Being a green energy vehicle, the only omission will be water vapor, producing over 2 gallons in an hour, which the crew can take.
2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 – Price and Release Date:
These details have remained secretive but the ZH2 may be produced from 2017. The military version should be available a little bit later. The 2017 Chevy Colorado ZH2 should cost you about $50,000 more or less. This is definitely a machine to look out for in the near future.
