2021 Ford Ranchero Rumors [Comeback is Unlikely]

Since the all upcoming debuts are on idle, we are using the time to explore further possibilities in the truck industry. One of the rumors we run into is the 2021 Ford Ranchero. Nowadays, such coupe utility vehicles don’t exist. But, the truck segment is growing and we explore options about Ranchero’s comeback. Well, the possibility is slight, since Ford’s lineup is full at this moment.

The truck was in production for more than 20 years, is based on the station wagon. Ranchero had seven generations, and the size of the utility car varied from compact to full-size. After so many times in the market, the name became legendary. This is not the first time we hear about the truck’s comeback, but it is not likely to happen because of many reasons.

2021 Ford Ranchero comeback

First of all, the 2021 Ford Ranchero is not going to be based on the same platform. Such vehicles are not competitive anymore. The coupe-utility is not offering to the handling of a car, towing capacity of a pickup, or versatility of an SUV. The nameplate could be used to draw attention to some of the new models. But, it is questionable where that pickup can fit. Ford dominates the big truck market with F-Series. The mid-size model is Ranger, and the company is testing a compact, city pickup called Courier.

We see only a vacant spot in the sporty segment, where 2021 Ranchero could be built on the unibody platform. On the other hand, truckers are not so keen on such vehicles. Just take a look at sales charts and you will notice that the only pickup using this architecture, Honda Ridgeline, is at the rock bottom.

2021 Ford Ranchero vs Chevrolet El Camino

It is a long history of this rivalry. Name a model from any side and you will find a counterpart by other carmakers. For the Ranchero, that is Chevy El Camino. The situation is the same with the GM truck, although the nameplate had a big role in Breaking Bad Movie. Nevertheless, the old model was used for Jesse’s escape.

Both vehicles are unlikely to happen in the 21st century. The industry is exploring other options and only nameplates could be used for some special versions. The biggest truckmakers in the US are developing electric vehicles and this is one of the rare chances for 2021 Ford Ranchero and Chevy El Camino to check into the game again.

Is Ford Going to Postpone the Debut of F-150?

The situation is not bright in the automotive industry. Ten years after the big economic crisis, the market suffers another hit. Coronavirus stopped everything in this segment and we will have to wait to see new debuts. For example, everything was ready for the premiere of the new F-150, but now, Ford has to play smart. The market will need some time to recover and sales are already slowed down. In this case, it will be nonsense to present the 2021 Ford Ranchero, even as the concept. The company will focus on the existing models, while all the plans and developments will have to wait.
