The 2022 Ford Ranger is back in the US market after a break in production. Pickup class was on the edge of survival, but the segment recovered from the rush of versatile SUVs. Now, these vehicles are specialized for towing, since this is one of the main advantages. While the Ranger was absent, Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado elbowed their ways as the best models. Now, with Ford back in the game, the situation is becoming interesting.
The new model is going to introduce serious changes. First of all, the redesign will make it look different. Then, a new engine is on the way. Like the reports mentioned as soon as Ford announced the comeback in 2019, a V6 should be there as well. A turbo-four is potent, but the mid-size pickup needs more cylinders. Another possibility is a hybrid unit. Again, we can find a few examples where the US company is using such a configuration in a combination with a V6. One of these setups will be there for the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor. Be sure this version is going to deliver more than 400 hp.
Standard Configuration
A 2.3-liter turbo-four is one of the most popular choices by Ford engineers. You can find it under the hood of the new Mustang, and several other big rigs. So, it is not a surprise why it powers the 2022 Ford Ranger. For the pickup truck, it is tuned for 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission is sending power to the rear axle and all-wheel drive is the second option for buyers. The good thing is that maximum power does not require premium fuel. Plus, the gas mileage is at a good level – 21/26 mpg with the RWD.
2022 Ford Ranger Hybrid
A hybrid is a legit option. We can already see some of the existing configuration available for the pickup. The 2022 Ford Ranger Hybrid might use a combination similar to the Explorer SUV. A V6 is combined with electric motors to deliver 320 horsepower. Nevertheless, we don’t know how the truck can keep hauling potential. With a turbocharged four-pot, the Ranger is returning respectable 7,500 pounds. A hybrid is there to improve gas mileage, slightly power, but the sacrifice is the towing capacity. The PHEV system that Lincoln Aviator is using is a bit too powerful for the mid-size pickup (500 hp).
2022 Ford Ranger V6
Not only a hybrid, but also a V6 power is an option for the new 2022 Ford Ranger. A 2.7-liter six-cylinder turbo configuration is good for 350-400 ponies, depending on engineers. Also, a 3.0-liter turbo unit might enhance the outputs to 400 ponies. Ford F-150 Raptor is using a 3.5-liter twin-turbo to get 450 hp. So, the smaller Ranger will get a smaller block. A 3.0-l displacement is already available for some SUVs and seems like a perfect choice for the Raptor edition. Plus, there will be a few other upgrades, including a 4×4 drive, skidplates, unique shocks, bedliner. The price of the Ranger Raptor with a V6 engine will exceed $40,000.
