2023 Ford Lobo Review: F-150’s Mexican Cousin

Behind southern border you will find a lot of trucks that look like the F-150 with the different badge. Well, there are the F-150 models, but only in the base form. All the higher trim levels, starting with the XLT, are called the 2023 Ford Lobo.

So, the F-150 is there with the XL equipment and you can make a choice between regular and double cabins. Then, a V8 engine is also available for the F-150. But, the 2023 Ford Lobo comes with more options. The XLT is the base version, and then there are Lariat, Tremor and Platinum. The only hybrid engine is using the Limited package. We also expect the Raptor for the new Lobo. Still, Raptor R is reserved for the USA.

2023 Ford Lobo Specs

The entry-level engine for the 2023 Ford Lobo is delivering 400 horsepower. A smaller block with 290 horsepower is there for the F-150. Extra power is used for increased towing capacity. Still, the F-150 can do 8,200 pounds, or 3,719 kg. A 400-hp rated mill does nearly 5,900 kg, or 13k pounds. The best hauler is the truck with a V8 engine. The hybrid configuration is more expensive thanks to the Limited trim level. Also, the HEV has a towing capacity of 12,700 pounds, which is excellent for such a drivetrain.

We are still expecting a high-output V6 and the Raptor model. The company offers the Tremor with unique suspension and exceptional off-road package. Still, a supercharged V8 with 700+ horsepower is not an option for the 2023 Ford Lobo. Only buyers in the United States will be able to purchase the Raptor R.

Grades and Options

The Lobo truck is starting with the XLT model. Below that is the F-150. It is a bit of surprise, but Mexican fans already got used to it. On the XLT trim, you can pick between regular and double cab configurations. Still, most buyers are going to skip the base version. All higher trim levels are with four doors. XLT, Lariat, Tremor, Platinum and Limited are the packages for the Lobo pickup.

The best features are very similar to the US model. For example, the XLT comes with alloy wheels (XL offers steel rims), drive modes, and 8-inch display with the Sync4 infotainment system. Cruise control is added compared to the F-150 in Mexico, lumbar support, and fog lights. If you want Lariat, you get larger wheels, leather seats, dual-zone climate control and larger infotainment screen.

Platinum is very similar to the King Ranch. That means LED lamps, trailer brake controller, premium sound system, wireless charger, and a few more options. The Limited edition brings hybrid engine, but also top of the line equipment. Massage is one of the upgrades, and there are 18 speakers. The 2023 Ford Lobo Tremor is an off-road specialist. As you can guess, four-wheel drive is standard. Plus, the company adds special suspension, locking-rear differential, and additional drive mode.
