General Motors is about to introduce a new version of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4. The truck is getting a meaner upgrade through the AT4x package. Still, we don’t know if the new edition is replacing an old 4×4 package, or it is an ultimate upgrade of the off-road section. Either way, the pickup is becoming more capable to face any surfaces and weather conditions.
The entire lineup is going to be new. After years of waiting, GM is introducing the next-gen models of both its mid-size trucks. The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 is under the spotlight since experts are speaking about the higher stage of the off-road upgrades through the AT4x model. Now, the first details are there. But, on the other hand, we are still missing a lot of info about the base truck and all the parts of its redesign and a new generation.
AT4 vs AT4x
The AT4 package was sometimes overlooked by fans. Everyone is speaking about Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. But, the Canyon AT4 and Nissan Frontier Pro-4X were very good alternatives. Now, GMC wants to get to the same level as the class leaders. For better off-roading, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4x is going to use Multimatic spool-valve dampers. This is part you can get by purchasing Colorado ZR2. Front and rear lockers are also available, as well as the new all-terrain tires mounted on17-inch wheels. The transfer case is getting a skid plate, and the truck features a locking rear differential as standard options for the AT4x model. It all makes the Canyon look more serious compared to TRD Pro and ZR2 bundles.
2023 GMC Canyon AT4 Specs
The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 is still going to be available with high-end engines. Most truckers will recommend a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel as the perfect match for the off-road truck. It cracks 181 hp and 369 lb-ft. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to all wheels, as you could guess. For those who are not fans of oil burners, a 3.6-liter V6 is an alternative. The price is very similar to those configurations with diesel engines. A petrol variant is good for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft. The MPG rating is better with the Duramax unit.
2023 GMC Canyon AT4 Price and Release Date
The next-gen of the truck will come with a lot of changes. Of course, the price is going up. But, we got used to everything becoming more expensive lately. The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4x is not going to be cheaper than $40,000, while heavily-loaded versions might hit the $50k mark. Still, the all-terrain package offers a lot of fun during off-road adventures.
The release date of the pickup is not set yet. We are waiting for the new generation to debut, and then we will know more about details and prices. The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4x models should be there at the premiere, but the company can also leave a few months before unveiling those 4×4 versions.
