The development of the new 2020 Ram 3500 is not a secret anymore. The company is testing vehicles for a while. The only surprise is – we expected to see it in dealerships already. Well, fans and enthusiasts will have to wait for it for a bit longer. On the other hand, we have the first information about upgrades and changes on the HD lineup.
Optional features on the 2020 Ram 3500 are now richer. Upper trim levels are packed with more equipment. For example, lane departure warning becomes standard, as well as the adaptive steering. Blind-spot monitor is available on all trim levels.
One of the most important upgrades is a towing capacity, that reaches 35,100 pounds. Well, the new HD truck, properly equipped, with burst monstrous 1,000 lb-ft of torque (class-leading output). Fuel tank of 50 gallons and 8 ft bed are also standard across the lineup.
2020 Ram 3500 Specs, Increased Torque and Towing Capacity
The main drivetrain for the 2020 Ram 3500 remains the Cummins turbodiesel. A 6.7-liter displacement is now tuned to deliver more power and that increases a total towing capacity. With 1,000 pound-feet of torque, the new GVWR is 35,100 lbs. Of course, you will need a dual-rear-wheel setup and a few other upgrades. A six-speed automatic transmission forwards power to all wheels optionally and rear axle by default.
Of course, these are maximum numbers. The base setup comes with less power, twist, and towing capacity. Another solution is a 6.4-liter Hemi petrol engine with 410 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. In this case, an eight-speed gearbox is a power router. Towing capacity drops to 22,000 pounds.
Changes
The highlight change for the 2020 Ram 3500 is its 1k lb-ft torque. However, the new styling will also draw attention. After numerous appearances as test mules, we expected to see the production model earlier. That is not happening and we must wait for details to become official. Of course, fans already analyzed the spy photos and here is what changes we spotted on the new HD truck.
The inspiration for the heavy-duty segment is coming from its smaller brother, Ram 1500. The company is dropping the crosshair grille and comes with the new design as the highlight of the front fascia. We believe that HD segment is going to grow, with both 2500 and 3500 models being bigger than before. Two new paintjobs are available – Olive Green and Hydro Blue.
Interior
Inside the 2020 Ram 3500, we will find an 8-inch touchscreen display as the standard feature. Upper trim levels will offer 12-inch screen. Also, by choosing a model of a higher tier, you will get more equipment than before. As for the rest of the lineup, the base version is Tradesman, while the top of the lineup is reserved for the Limited edition with most accessories.
2020 Ram 3500 Price
The base price of the all-new truck will stay put. That means the lowest cost you can pay for the 2020 Ram 3500 is around $36,000. Laramie model comes with more serious upgrades, especially after the revisit. It exceeds $50k and the Laramie Longhorn will cost $60,000. If you want a heavily-loaded model, prepare another $10k for Limited version with AWD, or $85,000 for the diesel model with High Output configuration (1,000 lb-ft of torque).
