If you are looking for the most capable truck in the market, the 2022 Ram 3500 will be among the favorites for buying. The FCA is at the same level with main rivals, Ford F-350 and Chevy Silverado 3500. All series 3 trucks are available with mighty diesel units and dual-rear-wheel setup. Max towing capacities are exceeding 30,000 pounds, while the torque is above 1,000 pound-feet.

There are also lighter variants of the 2022 Ram 3500 if you select a petrol engine. We would like to see the heavy-duty pickup with the Power Wagon package. Unfortunately, this upgrade is exclusive for the Series 2 Ram 2500 model.

Class-Leading Towing Capacity

It seems like Chevy can’t keep the pace with the Ram, not only in the HD segment. The half-ton truck Ram 1500 now sells better than the Silverado 1500. In the heavy-duty class, the 2022 Ram 3500 will tow a lot more than the Series 3 pickup by GM. You will need a turbodiesel engine and DRW upgrade to get the best from the truck – 35,000 pounds of towing capacity. Engineers might push the record. It is a two-way battle with the F-350, which is already at 36,000 pounds.

Cummins is delivering a 6.7-liter inline-six engine with 400 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft. One of the downsides is the AISIN transmission. Allison upgraded its gearbox and experts believe the FCA might go into the new partnership to make its large trucks even more capable. The petrol configuration combines a 6.4-liter V8 engine. We got used to seeing it with 475 hp, but for the HD truck, it will be tuned at 410 horsepower. An 8-speed auto transmission sends power to the rear or all wheels.

2022 Ram 3500 Options

Although there is no Power Wagon in the lineup, the 2022 Ram 3500 will be equipped with a lot of other options. The Crew Cab is the best configuration, while you can still select Regular or Mega Cab. The offer starts with the Tradesman package. Big Horn and Laramie are the mid-range trims. Top of the range versions are Laramie Longhorn and Limited.

The last one is going to bring premium options, such as leather seats, advanced safety features, and the new Uconnect system with a 12-inch display. It will carry over navigation and spray-in bedliner from Laramie Longhorn. Still, we would like to see the 4×4 specialist, such as Power Wagon. The base setup is packed with a petrol engine.

Dual Rear Wheel (DRW)

For the maximum towing capacity, you will need the 2022 Ram 3500 dual-rear-wheel setup. This is an exclusive upgrade for the Series 3 truck, which also delivers more power than the Ram 2500 version. The DRW configuration boosts the balance and traction, making the truck ready to tow more than 35,000 pounds. Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and Ford F-350 Super Duty models are also available with such systems. The AWD and turbodiesel will add about $15,000 to the base price. Fully-loaded Ram 3500 will exceed $80k.
