2023 Ford F-150 Presents an All-Electric Lightning Model

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning will steal the show. The all-electric model completely overshadows all other changes. It is something we expected for a some while. The company speeded up the development after the release details about the GMC Hummer EUT. Of course, two archrivals are taking the battle to the new segment. But, both Ford and GM needs to catch up with a leader in the electric automotive industry, Tesla.

Besides the EV, the 2023 Ford F-150 will also feature a few other changes. The new Raptor R is also drawing a lot of attention. Power outputs are not released yet, but those will be competitive with Ram 1500 TRX. Some say the new package will get a 750-hp rated unit. Not impossible, knowing that 6.2-liter supercharged V8 can do with some other models.

Base Configurations

There are three V6 engines in the lineup. The base one is a 3.3-liter displacement. Naturally aspirated, it delivers 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Engineers are keener on turbocharged units. So, appearance of a 2.7-liter turbo-size is not a surprise. Outputs jump to 325 hp and 400 lb-ft. It is even available for the Raptor edition. Still, the best performance of this off-road truck are available with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. A high-output engine is good for 450 hp and 510 lb-ft. For other versions, you must be happy with 400 ponies. A hybrid variant keeps power at 430 hp, but the torque jumps to 580 lb-ft. A V8 is definitely the favorite among truckers. A 5.0 unit can provide 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

We already mentioned some of the options for the 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor. The new edition will also feature a lighter version with a 2.7 turbo V6. On the other side of the lineup is the new Raptor R with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine and probably 750 horsepower. This is the response to the Ram TRX with 702 hp coming from the Hellcat engine. Ford showed the new version as soon as the FCA presented its vehicle. It seems like the electric truck was the priority and closer to production.

Like with the Ram TRX, the Blue Oval company had to keep up with challenges coming from Tesla and its Cybertruck. We were expecting electric trucks for a while, and now the game is on. But, the GMC Hummer is a bigger rival to the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning.

The battery for the electric truck will provide around 300 miles of ride. The base version can provide 425 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque. Each axle gets an electric motor making the AWD standard. Still, this version can do “only” 230 miles. To extend the range, you will have to purchase a long-range version. In this case, the truck’s power output is enhanced to 560 hp. Still, that will be expensive upgrade. The base model will start just under $40,000, like the Tesla Cybertruck. High-end versions with extended range can cost up to $90,000. We’ll see what Hummer has to say about this. A few features are already noteworthy, such as Crab Walk or Extend Mode.
