Ranger is back, but not as attractive as we thought it would be. We expect a lot more from this mid-size pickup truck. Diesel or hybrid engine, Raptor version, and few other things could arrive with 2021 Ford Ranger. It is still early to talk precisely about details, but the first teaser images could be found HERE.
Well, the vehicle seems to take some minor changes in its body. However, this might be the truck’s concept for the first refresh, and Ford is definitely not doing that only a couple of years after they decided to bring back Ranger to the US. The revisit is due for the 2022 season, and the 2021 Ford Ranger will update the offer with the new drivetrain and the Raptor version.
Specs
The only choice for the current truck will remain the part of the lineup in the future. A 2.3-liter turbocharged unit is pretty capable and we are not sure if the truck needs a V6. A four-cylinder mill can deliver 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Converted to towing capacity, the 2021 Ford Ranger will be able to haul 7,500 pounds. It is almost on par with a diesel version of Chevy Colorado. A 10-speed automatic gearbox provides a smooth delivery of power and improved fuel economy.
2021 Ford Ranger V6 or Diesel
As soon as the comeback became official and we found out specs of the new Ranger, everyone started to bid with the next engine. Opinions are split. A V6 is larger and it can provide more power without lags we get from a turbo unit. Ford has plenty of options in its lineup.
On the other hand, the new pickup introduced a diesel version in Europe. Experts believe the 2021 Ford Ranger could do the same. A 2.0-liter turbo engine is capable to burst up to 210 hp and it replaces an old 2.2-l mill. Engineers were working on efficiency and emission reduction, and that is the ticket for the US market as well. Ranger’s larger sibling, F-150 also offers a diesel unit.
Hybrid
We all know about the big electrification plan and that Ford spends billions of dollars to clean up the energy sources. You can already see the first products (Explorer PHEV). Although the spotlight is on the legendary F-150, it is not so easy to build an efficient hybrid for such a large truck. Instead, the company could turn to the 2021 Ford Ranger Hybrid. Even the PHEV system from the mid-size SUV could fit the pickup truck.
2021 Ford Ranger Raptor News
The performance-oriented version could arrive even next year. The 2021 Ford Ranger Raptor definitely needs a more powerful unit than the existing turbo-four. Still, it has an option to bring a twin-turbo system and boost performance. But, it is more likely that engineers will choose one of the abovementioned new arrivals. Either V6 or diesel can improve off-road capabilities for the Ranger Raptor.
However, not everything about this package is performance-related. Different kinds of exterior upgrades will make it more aggressive. An eye-catching body will get larger wheels, skid plates, and suspension/shocks update for better off-road skills.
